I am in the process of installing a cust collection system , however , the one major problem area i am experiencing is with the band saw . I have a jet 14 ” saw .
Has anyone fould a good way to collect dust from a band saw . the little 1 1/2 ” port is useless .
I am wondering if removing the bottom door on the saw and building a wooden encasement for the whole bottom that i could connect the DC to would work ??
thanks much

I have a Delta, and got a 4" "hood" fitting one would use with a jointer, took off my lower hinged steel door, jigsawed an appropriate hole down near the bottom, and mounted the fitting with sheet metal screws. Put the door back on, connected it up to the system. Sucks up most all the dust.
I have my older Sears 12" connected to my 4" DC hose. I cut a hole in the side case and used silicon glue to glue in a plastic coupling to which the hose connects. The saw has a 2-1/4" rear port, but I sealed that up.
If the dang engineers who design these tools would use them to cut 1000 bf of wood that their allergic to, they would figure out a better dust collection system!!!! It's probably a case of the units being designed by the accountants, though.
With my Sears, the top and bottom wheels are all in one continuous housing which makes dust pickup better.
Another thing u might want to do is rig a small brass brush so that it rubs against the lower rubber tire. This keeps crud from building up on the tire.
Happy new Year!!!

I will second planewood's suggestion. You could build an encased bottom, but his method would be quicker and just as efficeint. Ditto on the bottom wheel brush also.
Good Luck...

Hello to all
thanks a lot for the suggestions .
I am going to mount a large DC adapter to the bottom door of the saw .
sure would be nice if the manufacturers would give a little more thought to some of these things would'nt it !!
thanks again
