Bandsaw guide for metal cutting saw
I was lucky enough to pick up a 20 ” metal cutting band saw for dirt cheap. My question is wether I should replace the guides for wood working? The guides consist of a bearing behind the blade and stacked metal shims on the sides. Is it worth upgrading? What is a good upgrade?
Cheers

MSTEHELIN, Those ballbearing guides are fine. Remove them soak in kero then oil and put back
Note: the back of the sawblade should ride on the periffiry of the bearing only.
Those laminated guides are for metal work. (slow speed) Buy' kool blox' guides for wood and metal (They keep the blade cool especially at high speed.) Stein.
Those shim type guides will work fine. Rockwell's 20" wood and metal cutting bandsaw had those kind of guides The rpm is the big factor. The speed on a woodcutting saw is much faster.
