Bandsaw selection – Laguna 16?
I’m settling in on the Laguna 16 or the Minimax s45. Leaning towards the Laguna, despite some bad will on customer service that’s out there. My readings seem to indicate to get a better machine, I’ve got to jump up from ~$1,200 to $2k for an aggazanni (incl shipping) to do better than the laguna.
Any thougts… …?

for $2000 on an agazzani wouldnt you be getting a bigger saw?? my 24" was only 2800 or so.

Just out of curiosity how much resaw do you get from you 24" saw.
about 16" and a nice large top to support heavy boards.
From Eagle Tools website I see the 16" is $1,795. I assumed about $200 in shipping to get to $2k. Sorry, should have been clearer. Apples to Apples, I still think the Laguna 16 is $600 or so cheaper. The Euroshop/Aggazani looks to be a lot better machine, but... too many other tools still needed in the shop.
Hi I have a laguna LT16 and it'''s a great tool. I use a mini max at a friends shop and it's not better than my lt16. I noticed the lt16's are $995 right now(just got there new catalog). Now the mini max has 3hp but it's $1700, and for the buck I did very well, my lt16 has good power. The LT16 is what it's supposed to be, and has not disappointed me.
the lt16 has a second dustport at the bottom this keeps the lower wheel clean just get a wye, thats what I do.

Your message confirms what I'm thinking. You can always get a better tool by spending more, but the Laguna16 looks to be a good compromise - you get a good tool at a fair price.
thanks for the response
You won't regret the Laguna decision. I have had a LT18 for a year now, without
any problems. Laguna makes some great machines with lots of power and features.
And as for those negative comments; take them with a grain of salt. There is not a
product out there that you cannot find a problem with. Someone is always looking for
an excuse to bash someones product, which is why I don't do it, especially on a site
like this. And retailers cannot affore to piss off customers without suffering a loss of
sales. If there is a problem, give them a chance to correct.
This is not an ad for Laguna-just a satisfied customer.

Thanks for your input. Good to hear you're happy with the 18.
Just trying to make a good choice, it's always painful to have a big hunk of bad-choice sitting around the shop.
thanks,

Ron,
I have the Laguna 16SEC which is no longer offered but made by Merber like the LT saws. It's okay and does what we need. I don't care for the Euro guides on it but then a lot of saws seem to come equipped with them.
Since buying the Laguna, I've had the opportunity to look at a lot of saws. I'm not sure I'd by the Laguna today. It might surprise you but I'd give serious consideration to the Grizzly 20" (Model # 1258). Frankly, it looks like a better saw than the Laguna we have. The SEC has a 3 hp motor but so does the Grizzly and I'm sure the motor and switch would be easier to get a replacement for than the Laguna. The Grizzly has cast and machined upper wheel guide and tensioning devise, cast table trunions, a better table and a better fence. The tensioning mechanism on the Laguna is stamped steel as are the table trunions. I'm not saying the Laguna isn't adequate but we paid more for it than the Grizzly. We haven't needed service for the Laguna and can't say much about that but we have needed parts for Grizzly machines and they're very good when under warrantee and pretty good when not. Unfortunately the Grizzly does use the Euro style guides below the table but has better ball bearing upper blade guides.
Basically the Grizzly looks like more saw for the money than any I've looked at. I wish it had been available when we bought the Laguna.
