I have a Grizzly GO555 14″ Bandsaw with riser block. I have had the saw for about a year and a half and it has been a great tool. Today when I went to use it I tried to adjust the tenson for the blade and it would not get tight. After a little while the tenson know got hard to turn and now only turns about 1/2 turn either way. I had to tenson the blade using the stops (one above the quick release lever and one above the spring/tenson scale). Grizzly says “sounds like it is bound up.” No kidding. Any ideas on the problem or fix? Thanks for any help.

The threads may be stripped
I used it a couple of weeks ago and everything was fine. Grizzly suggested that too but how could the threads get stripped from something that is already threaded correctly? I started to take it apart and it seems that the nut under the spring is frozen. Could that happen?
The threads could have, hmmmm, I can never remember how to spell the word, galled (Gaul), well, whatever. Lack of lubricant, perhaps, and if similar metals that would excacerbate the situation. Another thing to watch out for is the tension screw actually boring a hole thru the frame.
If you live in an area where it gets cold and can be humid at the same time, the threaded shaft may have rusted after having been covered with sawdust to the point that the lubricant was drawn away.
