I have a zero-clearance throat plate on my 14″ Delta bandsaw that continually jams up with wood splinters shortly after starting a cut. Specifically, the slot behind the blade becomes clogged with wood splinters. I then have to push much harder than normal to get the workpiece through the saw. Any simple ways to address this issue?

I gave up trying to get a zero clearance insert to work on a bandsaw. I just leave enough room on both sides and the back to avoid anything getting stuck.
Are you cutting green (recently harvested) wood?
I have similar throat plates on both my 10 inch and 17 inch bandsaws and rarely have difficulty with debris while cutting kiln-dried wood. Maybe it's due to my slow feed rate?
One possible solution is to make a new throat plate with a wider slot

I don't have experience here but it seems like you could put the slot in front of instead of behind the plate. I've never used a zero clearance plate with a bandsaw. I'm curious to hear from those who have how well it works to prevent tear-out on the bottom side of the workpiece. Is it worth using? Most of the time one is cleaning up that band-sawn surface anyway. I can see potential benefit in cutting plywood with thin surface veneer.....
The only place "zero-clearance" matters is where the teeth contact the wood. Just open up the slot behind the blade until it stops clogging.
Bingo!
Simple but effective. Thanks for the suggestion.
Another throat plate question. I have the Griz G0153 X2 band saw and just killed the throat plate. I can get them from Griz but the shipping cost is very high. Anyone know of another source?? Thanks, Tom
Rockler has them. Plastic.
Thanks, but looked it up but the Griz is 2 3/4, too big.
