Who can help me with this? I have a 2 x 2 blank by 42 inches long, and wish to use my 14″ bandsaw to cut a 3/4″ x 1-1/2″ from it that has a quarter-turn (90 degree) twist in the 42″ length. I have seen this done as a stretcher for a bench, and in tiger maple, it was a knockout!

my thought would be to create a jig that is based on a lathe. as you push the stock through you crank the lathe. Your cranking speed would be the result of the twist you wish to create. The lathe would slide on a base with a grove down the length that would be like the miter slots on a table saw. The lathe then would slide in a groove/slot on top of this base to maintain the same rip. Id probably use an 1/8th blade on this. The base you afix to the bandasw table could then be marked with the inches to help maintain your feed/twist ratio.
Would probably take some practice on some sacrificial stock. Would be a slow twist since you only wish to turn 90deg. Roughly 2 degree rotation per lineal inch, based on a length of 42inches. Your crank might have a large circle with 2 degree marks in a 90degree sweep. Or find a protractor and afix it to the circle and have your reference point marked at both the 0 and 90. The larger the circle the more accurate you could lay out the 2.something degree.
thats about the only way i can think of to do this, but that doesnt mean there is another way or a simpler way.
