Early next year, I hope to buy a more versatile chuck for the Jet lathe. Ozzie’s post brought my attention to PSI’s Barracuda Chuck. Would like to hear from people who’ve used it for awhile as to it’s performance and longevity.

FG I haven’t used that chuck but I have used many others I favor the vic marc but its twice the price this could be a good deal. I wanted to add to your question if any one has this chuck would my vic marc jaws fit it as well?
I have used one for two years with good results. I have not experienced any slippage with the jaws. I would purchase again.
Walnut, thanks so much for responding. It gives me more confidence that my money would be well spent.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
Jamie, I just got mine, so I can't give too much feedback. But it does run true and seems to be well made and a good value for the money. As for longevity, one thing people complain about is stripping the gear with the key (it's like a big drill chuk key, not a hex key). You need to make sure your key is well engaged when tightening to avoid slipping the teeth.
Another option that gets high praise is the Grizzly copy of the Vicmarc for $99. With extra jaws it is a similar price to the PSI.

Thanks, Oh. I hope to get to some turning in 2009. This fall's been a bust, shop-wise.forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
I hear you. Shop time has been almost non-existent. But small turned pieces can be done so quickly. I set my lathe up after Thanksgiving and I've made 5 bottle stoppers. A dozen if you count the ones I butchered and turned into kindling and sawdust.
