I was just at the hardware store and then at mcfeely’s which seems to be a popular place to buy fastners.
The selection is well just overwelming.
Any suggestions on which (length, type) screws fastners i should stock up on as a STARTER SET? I primarily dead with plywood, hardwoods and mdf. I’m just don’t want to go out and buy a gazillion screws that I will have kicking around my shop. And I’m also tired of having to go to the hardware store to hope the have something to suit my needs.
Thanks

I just checked the last order I placed with Mcfeely's. My school uses the usual assortment of screws- nothing specific but I too have better things to do than running to the hardware store every day.
I always have in stock the following from Mcfeely's:
Flat Head ProMaster Saw Tooth Dry Lube Screws in
3/4", 1", 1 1/4", 1 1/2", 2", & a few 3".
I also keep an assortment of sheet metal screws on hand- 1/2", 1" and 1 1/2"
small screws for hardware- #4 X 5/8 and 3/4"
bolts, nuts, etc are as needed and I keep the extras in plastic trays with dividers
hope that is a help- obviously you stock up on the stuff you find you always are running out of and maybe get rid of the stuff on my list that you never use.
I do find that the mecfeely combo screws (listed above) are great- I always use square drive drivers (#2) but with the combo head you can also use phillips when you need to. I would stay away from some of the other brands- I have found them to be prone to snapping off in the wood (very irritating!). the screws I buy from mcfeely's I have driven into hard maple 1 1/4" deep with no pilot hole without snapping off.
I never use dry wall screws- they are so brittle they snap just by looking at them!!
