I don’t know if this is the right place to post, but I just recently bought a guitar made of tung oiled walnut. My problem is that while playing, my hands get a little sweaty and I’m concerned about this making its way into the wood. Any suggestions on how to protect this wonderful instrument would be appreciated. Thank you.

I think I'd wax it occaisionally, but I am far from being an expert on the subject.
*Brian,The tung oil will protect it fine. Just wipe the sweat occasionally (you do that anyway, don't you?) with a towel and let her rip. After a few years you might see some wear. I would ask the maker exactly what they used, buy some and before applying, lightly sand the area and reapply some of the maker's finish.Personally, I like the worn bits and would leave them unless some serious damage has occurred. from a fellow player,Dave pyas
*I've built two electric basses in my lifetime, and I finish the necks with tung oil. After a while, the tung oil sort of wears off, so you should puta nother coat of tung oil on it again in the future. I used Minwax tung oil and it worked fine. The more you put on, the more glossy it will look.I don't think the sweat from your hands will be a problem.Brent Ward
