"Shorter" in which direction? Standard kitchen counters are about 24" deep (front to back) and 36" off the floor. Bathroom vanities are typically 22" deep and 32" off the floor.

4runner,
Steve has answered correctly , but these dimensions are not custom to fit the users . For taller and even average ht folks a tad taller counter is easier ergonomically in many cases .
The vanity and base are often 21" and can be more if need be . The room size and sink bowl sizes are often much smaller then a kitchen application .
They have come up from about 30" to an average of 32" but most custom I do finish out at 33-35" tall and 22-25" deep , you never know what kind of vessel sink they are gonna sit up there .
I of course start with the area available but go directly to the sink bowl placements and plumbing .Sometimes a door on one wall end may dictate the depth of the counter top .You can stagger the depths .
Allow for floor thickness if after the cabinet is installed , make a taller toe if you can .

I'm towards the end of remodeling our old second bathroom that had a wall-hung sink. I built a vanity but because of the location of the door I could only make it 18" deep, countertop is 19" deep - total height is 35". Locating a sink to fit into that top was more of a problem than I thought it would be.
Thank you, I like reading all the various possibilities and problems.

For a sink, check with travel trailer and camper suppliers, they're smaller than standard.
Bought one from Bates&Bates, their 'Problem Solver' line. Thanks.
Newer high end home builders are making bathroom vanities 34'-36"
Is that 22" or 24" deep?
