I am in the process of putting up a beadboard wainscoting in a back stairwell for a 1895 Victorian. The stairwell is enclosed on both sides. At the base of the stairwell is small mudroom that will share the same beadboard. The beadboard will wrap around the mudroom and go up the stairs. <!—-><!—-><!—->
My question: Does it make sense to put the beadboard up on both sides of the staircase? Something in my gut is telling me to only put the beadboard on the exterior wall going up the stairs and leave the interior wall of the staircase clear of any additional trim. <!—-><!—->
Any advice appreciated!<!—-><!—->

It's a matter of personal preference. I've seen, and done it, both ways.

Dear Alex,
As Jeff mentioned, I've seen it done both ways. One thing to keep in mind, is that the inside wall will be convex, thereby making the joints on the bead-board, want to open up, while the concave wall will tend to close the joints.
Best,
John
