I have been asked to build a bed by my son and his girlfriend. They have given a picture of the bed they would like me to build. It is called an Iceland Platform Bed.
The picture shows a shallow platform with sides on it to prevent the mattress from sliding off (that’s the easy part).
The headboard looks slightly concave and recessed into the base platform at the head of the mattress.
Does anyone have any ideas how to attach something like this?
The bed is on the net at www.koolhausdesign.com . Click on bedroom , then again on beds to see the picture I have been given.

How about something with slots on the headboard and pins on the side rails so the headboard cold just lift off when it came time to move it? It may need to be done in metal to be strong enough if you want to be able to lean back on it.
What a coincidence , my older daughter ask me for a similar platform bed but kind of fiji style, I found a site that has an example of a bed but it is not the bed that my daugther wants.

Three of four long and muckle (big) bolts epoxied and captured into holes bored through the hardwood bottom rail of the headboard with a large diameter washer under the head. A sturdy hardwood beam running across the bed frame where the bottom rail of the headboard sits. Three or four matching holes through this rail, another large matching washer and a pair of nuts on the end of the bolt (one to act as a lock-nut.) The washers on the bed frame part, end even the headboard part could be replaced with a long piece of steel bar, about 1/8" or so thick, with holes bored through to match the bolt spacing..
I'd guess that should just about do it. Slainte.
