Belt problem with Rockwell 10″ tilting arbor saw 34-315
I have a 70’s? model 34-315 Tilting Arbor Saw by Rockwell that I inherited from my grandfather. I’ve used it off an on for a few years but the original belt eventually wore down to about 3/8″ wide and a bald spot with no ribs. That started the hunt for a replacement belt. There are a few original belts on Ebay but I found a aftermarket belt on Amazon that a few people seemed to have success with for around half the price.
After pulling off the arbor pulley with a pulley remover, I got the new belt on. The issue that I have is the belt “climbs” the motor spindle and arbor pulley and begins rubbing against the carriage. I flipped the belt around where the writing was going the other direction and tried it again but the problem repeated. I tried tightening and loosening the bolts anchoring the motor to the carriage but that didn’t seem to change the angle of the motor spindle.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix the belt from “climbing” the motor spindle and arbor pulley? If I rotate the belt by hand the other direction (blade would be turning backwards), the belt rides on the arbor pulley lip like it should.
Anyone have any suggestions on a fix or adjustment that I’m missing?
Thank you for your thoughts!
Mike

Typically it has to do with sheave alignment. I've attached a white paper from Gates. Belts of this type typically climb to the high side, so the inside part of the motor is tilted causing the belt to climb in that direction.
Thanks Nick! I'll check out the paperwork!
