does anybody know the proper name for a kind of bench that has the high back that one would put coat hangers at the sides, and the seat is hinged so one can put their gloves etc . usualy it’s at your door entrance some have a mirror,or a wood back.

I think what you describe is a Hall Butler. This piece of furniture usually has a mirror on the back, coat hooks, and a storage bench.

Heading back to the Aulde Country next weekend, Don. I haven't been absent from this forum at all. You must just not have opened the threads in which I've posted.
I remain, as ever, irascible, pointed, and obnoxious, ha, ha.
