I built the “Simple Workbench” in the Beginning Woodworking series. All I have left to do is drill the bench dog holes. With the measurements on the plan I don’t have enough depth to drill through for the first holes closest to the vice. The dog would hit the vice if I only put it 2″ from the vice mount. What am I missing?

I'll take a look at the bench tomorrow and get back to you.
Also, it's not critical that your dog holes match the plan. The more you use the bench, you might find yourself drilling more holes to accommodate specific needs.

Thanks Matt. I bought the Veritas 3/4" 4-3/8" long brass dogs at Woodcraft. I think they are the same ones that you used in the video. When I measured the length they will also bottom out on the vice screw if I use the center dog anywhere until after the total length of the vice under the table. Maybe I should get the Veritas "Puppies" 3/4 x 2-5/16" in length. Looking forward to your response.
Okay. Sorry for the long delay but I've finally got an answer for you on this.
We drew the plan up before we drilled the holes in the benchtop and you're correct, some of the holes ended up aligning with the vise bars. That means you do have to use short dogs to accommodate.
Like I said in my earlier post, see if you can relocate the holes to avoid this problem.
Asa has been out all week so I do want to check with him when he's back in the office tomorrow. He usually can come up with a solution.
Sorry for the inconvenience!
Matt
