Okay, here’s what I’m having a problem with.
Work on Yet Another Workbench is proceeding nicely.
I’m using an old section of five inch glulam as the core, and enclosing it in maple.
The beam has been in service as a bench for ten years, but like my existing main bench, it’s softwood, and makes a terrible main bench.
So I’m using it as a core, and wrapping in in dog hole strips and maple.
I’ve cut the benchdog holes at two degree towards the tail vise.
Now, on this bench, I’m doing away with the Fortune-Nelson tailvise that I used on my old main bench, and since I use my Record day in and day out, I simply bought another 52-1/2, and I’m going to use it for the tail vise.
Solves two problems in one shot. One, I get another 52, and I’ve occasionally wanted one at the right end of the bench, and now I’ll get that. And two, I never use the Fortune Nelson, and I know I’ll use the new 52.
At any rate.
So I’m going to cut the tail vise bench dog holes into the outside, wooden jaw of the tail vise. (It’s going to be huge, but that’s another story.)
I didn’t have any problem cutting the angle into the strips– simple jig(s) on the table saw, dado set, done.
What I don’t see is an accurate way to put two degrees on a square hole cut into the jaw of the tail vise!
The dado would have to start shallow and get deeper, and then there would have to be a wedge laminated in… or something…
It’s starting to seem like I’m standing too close to this, and missing something obvious.
Any ideas?

Okay, I think I see it.
Tell me if this is the long way around the barn:
Mill oversize, cut the dogholes square.
Re-mill the angle into one side, then re-mill square to that angle.
My dogs are wood, with thin wood strip for spring. As the spring contacts the dog hole close to the benchtop, I didn't need to glue in wedge (although I thought it would be necessary). Hope it works out well.
You can also cut your dadoes straight and put your angle on the face of the dog, that's how I did it on my bench.C.
Now, THAT, I didn't think of.I've already cut the dog strips for the bench, but I haven't manufactured the jaws yet. That would mean keeping the dogs for the jaws (Jaw Dogs? hmm...) separated from the Big Dogs. (Couldn't resist.)I'll have to think about that-- I'll probably get to the jaws this afternoon.
