Hey All,
I am new to this forum and hope I get this in the right folder. I am considering purchasing a benchtop mortising machine. I have seen the Delta and Jet models but have not used them. Anyone out there have any suggestions on these or any other economical mortising machines.

AT the school I teach at we have used two jet mortising machines, we made 100 armchairs over 1600 1/2" joints in two weeks using cabbage bark timber which is very hard, the machines got through it with no problems, one machine is four years old and still going well. Also they are working in 85 degree + temperatures.
I am going to buy one myself for home use
Hi Davidbelize,
Thanks for your post. I teach technology education at a JHS in Colorado. We have a Jet belt/disc sander and it has passed the real test of durability. I have seen the Jet mortising machine at a store, and it seems like it would work fine. Are you from Belize? We are heading there in March.
Thanks, Barry
I have lived here for 11 years now.
We also have a jet 15" planer that is a great tool. School tools get heavily used and some hard use so I try to get good quality but there is the problem of finance for the best tools. The cheap ones are false econamy though.

Ever run in to a jim Burke down there? He ran a bar there at one time.Never serious, but always right.
I am using a Delta benchtop mortiser and am looking to upgrade the mortising bits. Any suggestions as to which company makes good mortising bits? What did you use on the chair project, and what size?
Thanks,
Michael
