I am loking to buy a benchtop planer.
I can buy a Delta 22-580 2 speed planer for about $304.00 delivered.
1. Is it a good buy?
2. Will this machine hold up to planning 50 + Board Feet in one use?
3. Long term is this a good machine? Should I consider a DeWalt 734 for heavy use?
Thanks

I paid a lot more than that for the Delta shortly after it came out. I've been pleased with it's performance and have put many board feet through it. I've touched up the knives once on each side and just today received new ones for an oak project I'm going to do. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

The Delta is an absolute "dream machine".
I could rhapsodize ad infinatum about it's virtues.
The price you mentioned makes this gem a real steal.
Buy it. You'll love it.
One caveat. If it doesn't come with the dust hood.. buy it, too.
I realize you're not considering the Ridgid brand, but thats what I
bought about 4 yrs ago and have been very pleased and have ran atleast
1000bf of white oak (mainly) thru it and I'm still on the same set of knives. So, if the Delta is a better machine, than I'm sure you can't go wrong. Bigger isn't always better when it comes to tools.....in
other words, for the vast majority of WW'ers a benchtop planer
is fine.
