Is bending plywood the same as wiggle wood? I need some 3/8″ bending plywood for a project I am working on and my local supplier told me they have wiggle wood. A friend gave me a piece of wiggle wood probably 10 years ago and it was really floppy. I’ve used bending plywood in the past and it had some degree of structure to it. I’m thinking they are not the same. Do you know?

As far as I know, "Wacky Wood" is a brand of bending plywood. If it performs any different than other bending plywood products (I can't speak to that), I'd guess that it is due to the way it is manufacturered or the core material used.
Here's what I know about bendable plywoods. They bend only in one direction (and by that I mean both ways across one axis). They hold their shape ultimately by laminitating them with veneers to a form.In addition to the standard plywood that furniture makers and boatbuilders are familiar with, there's also a product called kerfcore. I've never tried it but I've seen it at a tradeshow. My guess is that it's not as strong as bending plywood unless you back on multiple veneer layers.

Thanks for the reply, Matt. Sounds like a trip to a couple of suppliers to find out exactly what each means by "bending plywood" is in order. As I said, the piece of wiggle wood (what my friend called it) that I had was like a piece of old celery when held by one end. The bending plywood that I have used in the past formed a large arc when held by one end. It wasn't as limp as the wiggle wood. The direction of bend of each piece was parallel to the end I was holding. More research is in order. Thanks,
Carol
