I recently came across some photos of tables that had “waves” in the top made by Thomas Stender . So i was wondering how he made the top. I wasn’t able to find any hints from him so I figured I”d ask the experts.
How would you go about bending (with multiple bends) a 1 x 10″ solid cherry table top. I have done some laminate bending but this is way beyond that.
Thomas, are you out there?

Then Again, maybe it wasn't bent at all. Maybe it was rough cut out of a thick piece of wood and shaped from there. Just sayin

Bending Wood
Don,
I don't know from experience how to bend a 1X10. But from some research I did recently it could most likely be done in a steam box. The project which got me going was making a Japanese styled lamp for the entrance to our home. Using hard maple 1/4" x 14" bent them into U shaped hoops. Without letting my wife know, wet a old hand towel and wrapped each piece and put them in the microwave oven for 4 1/2 minutes the quickly put them on a form and clamped them with a string loop which was twisted to make it tight. Left the hoops on the form overnight. It worked.

I guess I can understand you not wanting to let the Mrs. know one of those great bending techniques. Lets keep those trade secrets between us woodworkers :>) - but I bet the Mrs. knows what you did -
