Good Morning,
I felt inclined to post this because I was so surprised yesterday. Last week I had been talking with my wife about Amazon’s sale on Bessey clamps and she was pretending to listen and be interested. I told her that I would love to have some and we moved on to a different subject. I have two young kids and a stay at home wife (where they should be, old school I am) and when I want to buy woodworking gear, I have to budget and save. I got home yesterday and there were 8 brand new Bessey clamps in my woodshop!!!! 4 40″ ones and 4 – 24″. She actually got on Amazon and ordered them for me because “she wanted to do something nice for me.” I thought that was so great that I had to share it with all of you. I am indeed very lucky in regards to my wife. I truely believe behind every good man is a good woman.

I hope you've been paying attention to her conversations as well, because you now need to "repay" the gesture with something that she's probably already hinted that she would love for the house...
Enjoy your clamps.

I took a look at your website, very nice cabinets indeed. The pics of Yasmins Kitchen show built-in cabinets. Is that a common european detail? I have not seen that before and am curious to know your thoughts from a construction standpoint.

Brad,The built-in cabinets you refer to are not so common in Europe, execpt around the Mediterannean. Stone and stucco houses, lots of alcoves, arches, open to the fine weather. From a production point of view it can be a breeze or a nightmare, we've done both. Fitting cabinets to existing spaces is an exercise in frustration, because none of these traditional houses were built with our concept of "square" or "equal height" etc. The face frames sometimes need to be external in order to mask the huge differences in the openings. If we're making them for a new construction it's another story: we make a outer plywood box for each cabinet opening, that is, like an outer sleeve that the real cabinet slips into. We give that outer box to the builder who is doing the walls and he simply builds it into the construction. It insures that when we come to install we just slip every unit into its pre-fab space, no hassle.Speaking in general about these cabinets, they are exactly right for the Mediterannean style houses I refer to. However, they have 2 major drawbacks: 1. They waste a lot of storage space (not just the walls, above the cabinets as well) 2. The toe-kick tends to get dirty in time since it's just plaster that reaches down to the floor. These houses need to get whitewashed every year in order to look good.

I am not too surprised by your comments trying to fit into existing. I am aiming for a craftsman finish, so it will not work for me. Will keep it in mind.
thks
Behind every good man is a BETTER woman. I arrived home once to a brand new L-N block plane, now that is true love.
True love with the LN Block Plane or true love with your wife??? Sorry could not resist!!
Jeff
And the difference would be?????
Man, new clamps! A new plane! Where can I sign up for that program? And where can I register it with my wife?
Zolton
Good story. Buy her some flowers tomorrow, and budget in that new blender with all the gadgets that you know she wants.
Jeff
and you thought she was PRETENDING TO LISTEN AND BE INTERESTED.
It sounds like she double outfoxed you.

I certainly appreciate your story. However, when I told my wife, she replied that I knew where to stick those clamps. She says I'm going to buy the damn things, anyway, so what do I need her for. Been married for a long time, I guess.
