Hi All,
I knocked my trusty Bosch 3283DVS off the bench 15 minutes ago and I fear he’s a goner.
I will order the replacement in the morning… all suggestions with pros/cons welcome. I have a huge supply of 8-hole paper in the house so I’m going to stick on that.
Thanks!

DeWalt has served me well but I am at my third one in 20 years or so and was looking at Bosh for the next one since it had the best reviews on an older fine woodworking review.
I have a Bosch, but it's my backup. I'm not a brand name snob so I shopped around in a wider arc.
I found a Bauer that suits me fine. It doesn't stall under pressure, doesn't wobble at low speeds and doesn't overheat despite how long it's in use.
I know it all depends on your own personal needs/wants but this is today's version of my sander. Mine is over 10 years old and (knock on wood) still working fine. I replaced the interface pad once.

Do the festool 5" sanders fit the standard 8-hole pattern?
I don't know but you did use the words Festool and standard in the same sentence, are you feeling okay?
Seriously they have a wide range of ROS's

Yeah, looked at their site... many different hole patterns pictured. I can't seem to find a callout on the hole patterns for the 5" sanders. You can find 5" discs to buy... but no mention of the hole pattern. F-it, I'll probly go with another bosch, the one I killed had a long and happy life.
Festool are 9 hole discs, aren't they?
I have a Festool ETS (not Rotex) & the first time I ever used it, my mind was changed forever about my other sanders. Yeah, its $200+ and you could buy 2 or 3 Bosch's but ..............
Bought the dual-mode bosch...$250.. https://www.boschtools.com/us/en/boschtools-ocs/sanders-get65-5n-200697-p/
Please let us know how the turbo mode works out. Gimmick or really worth it?
I'll rip up a pc of melamine and let you know.
That looks like a Rotex.
I have the Makita. Use it a lot. Love it.
It doesn't leave swirlies, not a lot of vibration makes it to my hand. The extra handle gives options for hanging on to it. It's not terribly loud and I have it connected to my shop vac which makes it seem nearly dust free.
