Realizing long ago that satisfaction far outweighs surprise, I have asked my girl to get me a set of Marples Blue Chips for Valentine’s Day. Have anyone found a seller with lower prices?

Lower than what? The local Lowe's carries a set of four (3/8, 1/2, 5/8, 3/4, I think) Marples "Blue Chips" in a blister pack (no box) for $19.99

Kevin,
Thanks for the lead. I saw a set of 6 for $60 in some catalog and I thought there must be a number of sellers who offer competitively. My only concern with Lowes (and I may be mistaken) is whether or not a supplier is selling the same quality tool as they sell through smaller distributors. My experience with HD on certain items is that they get a lesser quality in order to sell cheaper.

The Marples chisels at Lowe's are the same ones that sell elsewhere for more money...I bought a set for everyday use, and they do a decent job.
Kevin
Ditto on the Lowe's -- mine are 1/4, 3/8, 1/2 and 3/4. Just be aware that they will need honing, but once that is complete they work great. By the way, does anyone know if Marples sells a 1/8 chisel?
Bert
Woodcraft should have the 1/8 in. chisel
I have had one for many years, and think that they still make and sell them.
At HD I thought I saw them for $29.99.
Is that correct, $19.99, at Lowes? Time for another 10% off...
Marples are okay,I've had a set for years. But, don't let the Sheffield,England name fool you. This steel is not the kind that made Sheffield famous,it is rather mild and will not hold an edge. But for everyday use, they'll work with regular maintenance.
Amazon has em for $24.99 and the 6 piece box set for $49.99 both with free shipping.

Hey, thanks! Good call on Amazon.com.
I got the Minister of War and Finance to order them and it includes a case as well! Free freight besides.
I'll be smiling on Cupid Day for a change. No more heart covered boxers.
