Can anyone recommend a make/model of dehumidifier for a (dusty) basement woodshop? I had an LG unit for a couple of years, which died. Should I avoid residential-type units and shell out big bucks for a heavy duty industrial type unit? What are the differences? Thanks!

No, you shouldn't, unless you're spray finishing and you need an explosion proof unit. The simple reason is that the consumer models are made in much larger numbers by overseas slave labor, so they're dirt cheap. You can burn out a bunch of these before you'll come close to paying for an industrial grade dehumidifier.
I've used a Whirlpool Low-temperature dehumidifier in my shop for about 3 years now, and it's performed flawlessly. Like you, my previous one was an LG, and it went belly up after about a year. It also had an irritating tendency to ice up. The low-temp models have a defrost cycle built into the unit, so they don't ice up, even at 65 degrees and 80% humidity.
This may sound stupid. But summer or winter use? If summer I would go with an AC unit! As most of its capacity goes to dehumidification any way, so why not be cool too.

Many thanks, all - Just picked up a Haier¯ brand 45 pint unit at Target for $150. We'll see how it works for a while....
