I am making a humidor using alternating pieces of walnut and red oak 2″ wide. What type finish would look the best to bring out the grain of both woods. i also would like to darken the oak slightlybut still want the contrast of dark and light.. would a stain, varnish, or oil finish look the most custom and expensive.

Made a few pieces with walnut/oak, walnut/maple strips. Used Minwax golden oak (thinned) to darken the oak. It didn't affect the walnut much as it was real dark to begin with. Shot'em with nitro lacquer which darkens oak somewhat also. Don't know if that would be good for a humidor.
