Peter,
I am building some pressure clamps for gluing walnut panels. What finish would you recommend on the body of the clamps (simple spruce/pine 2X4) so the glue will not stick to the clamps? I am planning to also cover the clamp body with duct tape so the finish is a back up just in case some glue gets on the clamp.
thanks … george

Gmt,
I would recommend covering the clamp face in some type of thin acetate or melamine. It would be simple to pop off any glue that drys on it . You could also put some wax paper over that to eliminate any sticking at all. Doing this will also make the face even and completely flat.
If you just want a coating, use some poly. The glue can be easily removed while it is still soft.
