I would like to buy a slot cutter bit, probably a stacked set, 1/2″ shaft.
Either Whiteside or Viper, unless you can convince me differently.
Freud is maybe just as good.
Anyhow, who has the best online prices?
Thanks in advance, Gary

webdesigner,
We just had a discussion on this topic.

Thanks, I was mostly interested in an online store that had the best prices.
For Whiteside, Viper or Freud. My preference is Whiteside, but they can be quite expensive. Any tips?Gary
Try routerbits.com. Good service, prices and selection. Have fun.
I like inifinity bits

1 - measure the board twice, 2 - cut it once, 3 - measure the space where it is supposed to go 4 - get a new board and go back to step 1
Webdesigner,
In the already-active discussion I mentioned, I wrote a response that includes two "online stores."Here it is:

Good prices at Ballewsaw.

Hartville Tools. Sometimes Amazon. Sometimes even Ebay.
I used Viper almost exclusively until I tried my first CMT. The only bits I buy now are CMT.
Have had good results with Eagle bits, prices are good. CMT are availble online from Sommerville all so have been please with the results.

For Whiteside, I've heard that routerbits.com is the place to go. Viper is no longer, IIRC.

You're right again Forestgirl!
routerbits.com rocks. They're nice and prices are very good. Thanks, as always.

Hello
That router bit.com looks OK but... I don't want to sound like a broken record,
But http://www.magnate.net/ is the best for the money, in my book!
The quality, selection, and prices are very hard to beat!

No problem with the broken-record thing :>) Magnate looks worth a try to me, certainly reasonably priced. How well do they hold up?
Can't believe Amana prices (not just at Magnate, but at my local store too). So far, the ones I've tried have not been worth the extra cost. :-(forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Forestgirl, I echo your response.Every one will have their personal preference. I like Whiteside, the prices at routerbits.com are very reasonable, to me it's a logical choice!
Why go with Magnate then? A lot of the Whiteside bits are the same price. And with eBay, we're encouraged to use PayPal, and I've heard nothing but horror stories regarding security!!! A lot of our personal informational is leaking out, all too scary.
Thanks for the "echo." I want to try some Whiteside bits one of these days. Also wouldn't mind trying out Magnate just for fun.
Don't know what you've heard about PayPal -- I've had an account for years and had no problems. I take only PayPal for my auctions (though I'm not that active as a seller these days), hubby sends me money occasionally (he works out of state), and I pay for auctions using PayPal. I will say, though, that hubby has had erroneous charges made to his credit card by a merchant or two whom he paid direct (not through PayPal). I don't think he does that anymore!forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Ditto the routerbits.com advice. I've ordered from them once or twice, and it seemed like the order arrived before I signed off. Awesome service.
Cheers

I think CMT bits are the best. But if you prefer Whiteside try eBay for some good prices. Seller briartoys1 always has some listed.

Life is what happens to you when you're making other plans .
I'm no expert, but somebody steered me toward Holbren (http://www.holbren.com) for some plywood-thickness dado bits. They were pretty inexpensive and I'm happy with them.
I imagine they'll get dull soon, though. However, I'm just a weekend warrior. I doubt they'd hold their edge long in a cabinet shop.
I buy my router bits at Lee Valley, great quality, and selection, and good online shopping. I think they are excellent bits for the money.
Cheers. WALKER1
check out MLCS. I've used thm for years, and they seem to do well in head to head tests. Art
Gary: I use carbide.com with good results. They have good prices and quick service. KDM

Whiteside the best.. But I like them.. A bit expensive but but sort of like a good wife.. Pay up front and get more than ya payed for!
Only ya never thought of it that way!
I like the CMT bits also. The best place I have found to buy them online is http://www.carbide.com . Try that and let me know what you think.
Thanks for the tip.
They're located in California, which means they would charge me tax.
Otherwise, they're a good alternate choice.Gary
I have had very good luck with routerbitworld.com
and have found there prices better than other sites.
