Lou, I can only speak of the Boston area. Craig's list has cabinet saws listed weekly. Occasionally some nice old iron.
I'm always amazed at the amount of woodworking equipment that gets listed, of coarse, theres a higher percentage of home use type equipment. If your not in a hurry, its a good place to look.
Currently listed is a Luguna 10-12" and a Unisaw.
I hope this helps.
Ron
Start here. http://www.woodweb.com/cgi-bin/exchanges/machinery.cgiafter going down this column, on the top right side, notice in blue, the "on line auction" If you watch those, there are some real fine deals to be had there.http://www.irsauctions.com/index.asp?flash=7
About two-thirds of the equipment in my shop was purchased used. It's taken quite a few years to assemble and has come via a variety of sources: ads in the local newspaper, word of mouth, used machinery dealers, and school auctions. Craigslist is also a good source and it's worth checking out the classified section of "Woodweb" on the internet. Woodweb specializes in industrial equipment but will have some smaller stuff. Good luck.

In your other post you said that you have a saw. Do you need a second? I run five table saws in a one man shop. I hate changing blades.
DJK
yes I need two. One for upstairs
Lou,
I'd like to second the craig's list suggestion. Here in New York City we have had everything from basic Unisaws up to 12' sliding panel saws listed within the last month or so. I would imagine that since you're in southern NJ, without too much difficulty you could access both the New York Metro Market as well as Philadelphia. Between the two there should be plenty of listings.
Good luck,
Jonathan
craig's list is great! picked up a work bench today that I found on the list. Mint condition, Practically new.
Also purchased my jointer and plainer on eBay both with only a few hours on them.
It seem lots of people take a woodworking course and run out buy stuff then discover it's not as easy as they thought. their willing to take a loss to just get rid of it.
Patience is the price you pay to get good deals.

Alan,
Down around these parts we get the following on Craig's List:
1. Commercial shops either upgrading or going out of business
2. Average homeowner that has had it for years and is making room
3. The guy that purchased it for one project and then is trying to recoup some of the cost
What ever the case, I think it is a great source for tools, provided you know what you are looking for, you don't buy on impulse and you have patients.
On a different note, where in NH are you located? I used to live over in Rindge.
Jonathan
Hi Jonathan,
It may just be a fluke but the jointer, plainer, and work bench were all purchased by software programmers who had taken a woodworking course. "Go figure".I live in Nashua. Where is down Here?
Planning to move to Texas when I retire in a couple of years.Alan
Alan,
I knew Nashua had computer folks, I had no idea that they all thought they had an affinity for woodworking. I think it has to do with the fact that the further you venture into technology, the greater the calling to work with ones hands and "get back to basics" yada yada yada
Down here is New York City, where I am the Captain of a 1893 Landmark fishing schooner called the Lettie G. Howard.
Happy chip making,
Jonathan
What's Craig's list?
Craigslist is an internet classifieds service arranged by location and then by subject. Do a search and you'll find it. Actually, I just discovered it a few months ago, myself. Our neighbor works for the local newpaper and I asked her why the number of classified ads in the paper had declined in the past year. Her answer, "Craigslist".
ChipTam
Thanks , I think I'll give it a try.
I consistantly get the best deals from the newspaper classifieds. Ebay is easier, but things tend to sell on the high side, unless it is three phase or not commonly used. Look for shops going out of business.
Pardon my spelling,
Mike
Make sure that your next project is beyond your skill and requires tools you don't have. You won't regret it.
Lou,
Another source for used equipment is Rudolph Bass Inc. Their business is used machinery. Their website is http://www.rudolphbassinc.net .
If I see anything pop up around the NYC area I will let you know.
Jonathan
