I guess this falls under the “materials” part of ‘Wood and Materials’. Anyway, I’m looking for a good source for full-extension drawer slides for a complete kitchen. Probably going to need 30 pairs, don’t want to break the bank. Appearance much less important than function, this is going to be a true “cook’s kitchen” with many drawers and lots of heavy cookware etc. Any ideas? I get Rockler catalog occasionally but haven’t in a long time, don’t know how their prices compare to anyone else. Local Home Depot has “Liberty” brand but I don’t know anything about them or how they hold up. I have the Kreg jig for drawer slides so whatever I get should have to fit that jig somehow.

JonE,
I'm in NYC and get all my Blum drawer slides from Manhattan Laminate. Google them they have a web site and carry everything Blum.

I have been buying mine from an Amish place located in Ohio. The name of the company is Hershberger's Hardware Ltd. Phone 330-897-7701 or 1-800-734-8044, Fax: 330-698-3200. They are Amish and the telephones are in an English establishment near their warehouse. I have been to their warehouse and it is quite extensive. Gas lights etc, no electricity. The last time I bought full extension slides was this past October and I paid $4.75 per pair for 18" Tough to beat this price. I have been using these slides for the past 10 years and have had no problem with them. I picked them up so there was no shipping.
You can go to Rockler online. They have every kind of slide imaginable.. including Blum.
If you want brand names like Accuride, KV, or Blum, good sources are http://www.wwhardware.com and http://www.cshardware.com. No-name slides will cost less, but are a bit more of a gamble.
There is a guy on Ebay, user name gliderite, that has knock off of the accurides for dirt cheap.
I bought a couple of boxes of the 22-inch 100-lb slides in June of 01. I used 14 pair, on some sliding trays in the Sister's bottom cabinets, and the rest on drawers in the shop. So far they have held up well. The fit and finish is as good as the Accurides.
If you decide to buy, check all his auctions, as the price and shipping costs can vary for the same item from one listing to the next.
Jigs,
I checked out that guy on ebay, his prices seem to be good, however when the shipping is calculated the price is way over inflated. $40 to ship 10 pairs from CA to MS. + $46 for the slides = $86 for 10 pair of 22" slides. Caveat emptor!

It's more for shipping if your not on the west coast, and a full box is heavy.
But, Lee Valley wants $10.95/pr, before shipping is added on, so $8.60/pr is still a bargain.
The two packages I bought, the shipping matched the UPS charge.

Quick and the prices are fair.

Personally, I like Blum tandem full extension slides. Last year, when I did a full kitchen (about 30 pair of slides), I went on the internet and did a search for Blum slides. There are lots of different places to buy them with a wide range of prices for the same unit. Turns out a garden supply store in Billings, Montana had the best prices. Go figure! Anyway, they arrived about a week after the order was placed without a problem.

I just bought 10 pairs of 21" Blum tandems on eBay. Price beat Rockler and woodworker.com and they are in perfect shape. Slides, catches and mounts were all included.
I've bought Accuride on eBay as well, and have always been pleased with what I got and the price. I buy on-line some, usually from Rockler or woodworker.com. I used to go to cabinetparts.com but they are too expensive (consistently 10%+ more than others).
Thanks for all the advice, guys. My decision is basically between the Accuride 3832 or 3732 series, the KV8400 series, or something "generic". I checked out at least ten different online sellers - three on eBay selling their own brand, the usual suspects (Rockler, Woodcraft, Lee Valley), and several "wholesalers". The eBay ones were certainly the cheapest, even with the apparently huge shipping fees, but they don't carry self-closing or overtravel slides, either. Once in a while an odd lot of name-brand slides may come along and I'll keep an eye out for them.
The best price I found on Accurides was indeed at a turf and irrigation supply house in Montana. I dunno why. The turf and irrigation is only half their business; the rest is really low prices on tools and hardware, especially kitchen hardware. Lee Valley's slides are even cheaper in 25+ quantity, but no brand is given on their site. With their satisfaction guarantee, though; it's hard to go wrong buying anything from LV.
I'm pretty sure, however, that I'll go with KV's from http://www.wwhardware.com. They have everything else I need as well, bulk pricing (I need 50+ pairs) and the price is right.
Jon,
Good choice, those slides are bulletproof. The Chinese knockoffs are not there yet. The KV's are made here in Grand Rapids and they stand behind their product. I had to replace all the Accurides I installed in my kitchen 20 years ago. The balls just broke down and dissolved. I replaced them with 8400's.
I bought a box of the 'bargain' full extension slides on ebay and lived to regret it. It took far longer to remove the molasses-like preservative than it did to install the slides.
Brake cleaner eats the gunk.
Maybe the original brake cleaner but negatroid on the 'green' version.
JonE ,
I have been using KV for most applications for many years and have had great experience with them .
As a suggestion , look at the KV 6505 specs and check the price . My wholesale cost is about $4 per pair more for the 6505 than the 8400 and they are well worth the extra . They are also full extension with a 1" overtravel and 125lb capacity and utilize quick disconnect strips that mount to the drawer box sides . On the really large drawers I make , I use the KV 8505 , 150lb capacity and the 6505 is used on any standard sized drawers .These are called a progressive type of action the way they slide out .
There are even more better slides currently made for ultra high end , concealed undermount and self closing , these may be in the $25 - 35 range per slide .
Imo hardware is not an area to scrimp on , even about 50 pair more or less X $4-5 more each $250 - $300 is a small price to pay for everlasting quality . Each time you open and close a drawer you will feel the quality . Order a pair of each and mock up a trial or use them on the real thing before you decide .
good luck dusty
ditto on lee valley
great selection, great mailorder or if a store is near you even better
they carry the blum line including the new soft close line
im a pro cabinet maker and the blums are the easiest quickest installs far superior to the cheapie slides
I say go with Blum slides we use them all the time in regards to cost in Australia Blum has trade dealers and the difference can be quite a lot compared to retail contact Blum US for trade dealers also ask for a copy of their Manual for fittings and Hinges etc. They are usually quite helpful.

You can make it fool proof but not idiot proof
Cabinetparts.com
I have ordered many times from them, and they have good pricing and prompt shipping.

I use a number of sources depending on the application. http://www.woodworkershardware.com has pretty good pricing.
I am also in the market for drawer slides and looked at A & H Turf and Specialties for the 3832. I need the 16" and their price is $9.05. The shipping adds a little bit to the price, but you have to realize the weight factor. Their price is the best I have seen and I really want the self closing mechanisim. Also, if they are made in the good ole US of A, enough said. Thanks for asking the question.
