I recently purchased the pm-2000 tablesaw with the jessem rout-r-lift and can’t decide on a router to dedicate to the rout-r-lift. I’m looking for enough power as to not be limited in application, and ease of use – bit changing, adjustment, etc. I saw the article on the new breed of routers, and the high rating on the triton 2.25 hp. But is that the best router match for the lift I have? Thanks.

Just to be clear on this, are you sure you have a Rout-R-Lift and not the other Jessem lift called the Mast-R-Lift?
John White
Yes, rout-r-lift. Comes with the powermatic kit. thanks
The reason I asked is that the Rout-R-Lift usually requires that you use a fixed base router since you have to be able to remove the router from its base to do bit changes. With most routers, the Rout-R-Lift doesn't raise the router high enough through the table opening to allow router bit changes from above.
It may be that the Triton could be adapted to the Rout-R-Lift to allow above the table bit changes, but you would have to engineer some way of using the Triton's above the table height adjusting crank with the Jessem plate.
The classic fixed base router for tables are the small #690 and #890 and large #7518 and #7519 Porter Cable machines.
You would have been better off by getting a Mast-R-Lift which would allow you to use the motor of a fixed base router without the machines base and would permit above the table bit changes. Perhaps you can arrange to exchange the lift you have.

I was afraid of that. I can't understand why Powermatic, with the acclaimed 'innovation' this year, would accessorize their PM-2000 with an outdated router lift. In the advertisements, it's shown as a "powermatic rout-r-lift" (you only see 'jessem' when you receive it), and not ever having a router table, I failed to research this far enough. I doubt anyone will take it as a trade-in. Thanks much for your time and answer.

I sympathize with your frustration, they should at least have offered two versions of the lift. My suspicion is that Jessem may be discontinuing the older style and they offered Powermatic a deal to clear out the inventory.
You could list your Rout-R-Lift in the classifieds in the Knots section of this site and probably get at least half of its list price back.
