Has anyone ever seen any plans for an early American/PA German Bible or document box? I’ve done numerous searches on the web and so far have found nothing of value to me, only contemporary versions. I want to make one for my brother for Christmas.

TC,
I did a quick Google for 'early american' + 'bible box' and found:

Bill Arnold - Custom Woodcrafting
Food for Thought: The Ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
With one minor exception, bible boxes were built like any other moderately sized box of the region and era they came from, they could be plain or fancy, pine or hardwood. Differences were mostly due to the taste of the customer and the skill of the cabinetmaker. Often times they did seem to have extra care spent on them such as chip carving.
The one exception? According to Wallace Nutting, bible boxes, in general, weren't fitted with locks, being that the contents had divine protection.
