Has anyone seen or know anyone who’s seen that huge Grizzly radial drill press? (model 9969). It ships at 525 lbs–about a dollar a pound. The short (<4″) spindle travel might be made up for by its 45″ swing. (45″!)
My experience with Grizzly products is so completely bipolar that I have to rely on eye witness reports.
Anyone?
TIA

Pretty much a regular drill press head. Says 3-1/4 travel in my catalog. It's the base that's different and mostly what you are paying for. There's much larger radial drills out there as well. This is one of the smaller ones in my experience. Actually second to the smallest one. You can fake a radial drill press by mounting a regular bench model on a step. Picture shelf or plate on maybe a 10" support on each end. Also mounting the base on a ceiling bracket allows you to drill in the center of any diameter.
Most all of the machinery in my home wood shop are from Griz. I very much like just about all of them. However, the radial arm drill press is not the best. It is under-powered and the quill has too much wobble for my liking. I am told that most all their other drill presses are winners.
Plus, I found that I rarely use the radial arm feature. I should have bought one without the radial arm.
Good luck--

Cheetah"Thanks for the info. Besides short travel and huge footprint, I was worried about exactly those problems you mentioned. I already have a press whose quill vibrates a bit more than I'd like; looks like I'll just put in new bearings. My doubts over the Griz mostly stem from a disastrous 16" drum sander that I still have; I joke that there's still some original paint, otherwise I've rebuilt everything. But the dust collector has been flawless. And strong. Thanks again,Butch

I have found that overall Griz offer the hobbiest woodworker EXCELLENT value and great quality in most all their machinery. But as always--- buyer beware. Grizz does make some sub par products that best left alone. But like said before my TS, BS, and jointer are all Grizz and have served me well for the past 5 years.
What DP are thinking of buying? Thank you,
