BIG time question small heating parts…
Hello To ALL
I hope this finds you all safe and happy. I have been watching some shows like H-G TV and THIS OLD HOUSE and I have seen heating contractors using heat duct’s that are flexible and very small (very small) but I cant seem to find out any info about them. You see I am trying to run heat into my front porch of my 1917 Prairie style home but being as though my out side wall are 16″ thick ( brick&block) I was really hoping to not have to knock out some huge hole to get the duct work to the crawl-space under the porch. Any body have any info they could share. Thanks a bunch. Rick . ADESIGNS.

Rick, You'd probably have more success over in Breaktime. Knots is more for furniture and such. I just want to know why you're heating a porch? Is it insulated? Just being curious. Also, is radiant heat an option. A few issues ago FWW had a review of a radiant heater for a shop. That might work for you.
I've seen the show on This Old House that you're referring to about the small air ducts. They are part of a newly designed system that uses a highly pressurized plenum, about 18" - 24" diameter. All of the trunks leaving the plenum were of the 4" size you're wondering about. They said on the show that this method is not adaptable to an existing HVAC system because of the different size ducts being used, as well as the new system has a fan that would blow out the pilot light on your existing system because it moves so much more air. Hope this helps.

Rick,
These are called high velocity systems. Spacepak is one.
