Well, here it is. Finished my first year project in the Rio Grande Fine Furniture Program. Only the 3rd piece of furniture I have ever made. After more than enough hours, I fixed problems and have rubbed last coat of wax (which didnt rub out to well so I may strip that and try again!) If you have any comments, let me know.

good for you. Looks great. The second time will be a lot better. Thank g-d for learning curves. By the way, I really like your vaneer choices, great grains.
Fantastic work!!!!!!!!!Keep it up.
Nice job! I wish that I could screw up that well!
John
Lovely! I would like to see a close up of the feet in particular. Are they "Drake feet". How do you draw the pattern to put on the blank you cut out to make that leg?
Thanks
Frank
Can't help with the wax problem. That's a very impressive piece, great lines and proportion, legs are beautiful, veneer choice is lovely. Nice work, to say the least.
Bruce
Beautiful! The grain selection is striking. Keep up the good work.
Jerry
Fantastic! What beautiful wood selection too. You should be proud!
forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
As others have mentioned, nice wood choice.
Very impressive, got any more detailed pictures that you care to share?
Doug
Here is pic of lower case. Will work on getting pics of crown, ship-lapped back, feet (hand shapped), and dovetails (hand-cut). As for wood choice and prep - the wood was from a tree my dad cut down about three years ago. After milled I had planks about 18-24 inches wide with enough quartersawn on edges to make case pieces out of. All wood was air dried for almost three years and acclimated for 3 months prior to beginning. Used Mosers Light Golden Brown (alchohol - water based of same color was slightley less even) diluted to 1:4. Coated sanded oiled sprayed 3 coats garnet shellac and 4 coats superblonde to help reflectivity. You can really see wax problems in this pic. The veneer is actually stump veneer. Thought is might look a bit bette rthan the ubiq. crotch or burl.
Thanks for the pic.
Maybe you see the problem with the wax but I cannot.
As I'm sure you know, one of the good things about wax is the ability to reverse/remove it to redo.
You've done good, you should be very proud.
Doug
look at left side of top drawer and where grain cathedrals on apron. All that white stuff is 'clear' wax. Thinking I might just put some black wax over.
Sorry I am late into this thread due to travel, but as we would say in old South Brooklyn, WHAT ARE YOU SHXXXING ME. Thats beautiful, we all wish that we had the skill to put that together! ENOUGH SAID. Pat.
Biggest screw up?
Third try?
Way beyond me.
Excuse me, but I must go out and sit in the dirt and eat worms.Regard it as just as desirable to build a chicken house as to build a cathedral. Frank Lloyd Wright
but I must go out and sit in the dirt and eat worms.
I'll have a few Y's ya squeese's out the dirt (Beats taste like dirt!) and cook em!
Looks real good to me..as someone else said [ I wish i could screw up that good]
Have a nice day Lee
Fantastic work, I would be proud to put my name to it.
How would you rate the Rio Grande School?
I wish I knew they had schools like thirty years ago !
Best of luck..
Excellent work, hard to believe this is only the third piece of furniture you've made. I would still have said "excellent" if you told us this was your one hundred and third piece of furniture.

Biggest Screw-Up ??
The brass polished to much?
Very nice, Be sure to have profesional slides taken of it in a studio, or have the photographer bring a suitable backdrop. Make sure the photographer specializes in this type of thing. It will be worth the expense. Then send the slides to all the apropriate magazines, journals even the newspaper. You never know could be a slow news week.
Mike
have any idea how much that may cost?
