   Hi Frank,

   Sounds like a good project.

   If no one comes up with an existing plan for you, I might be able to come up with something new. Do you plan to cut out the pieces ahead of time?

   Thanks Dave. Yes, I intend to have all parts ready to assemble These kids,as all, have a limited attention span. Gotta be able to keep things moving.

   Ask your local library to get you a copy of Woodworking for Wildlife: Homes for Birds and Animals by Carrol L. Henderson

   He has different styles depending on what tye of bird you want to attract.

   I would suggest a wren house. Wrens are a lot of fun to watch. But don't be disappointed if the male starts a nest, but never occupies it. He needs approval from the Mrs. before moving in (Sound familiar?)

   Blue Bird house are fairly easy and I have seen a great difference of flying bugs around the house. Also they are becoming endangered. I found a plan for them on the web.

   3rd grade boys have a limited attention span! That's news.

   Isn't it lucky that the grandparents of those boys have patience? (And a bottle of Scotch at the end of the day.)

   Do not be afraid of a few nails. Many years ago when I was a Cub Scout Leader I had the boys make blue bird houses. I cut all the pieces and drilled pilot holes for the nails. I drilled the starter hole a little bigger at the begining so the nail would friction fit in at the start. then a smaller hole the rest of the way. When I told the parents to have the boys bring hammers for the next meeting, I got a lot of "A hammer are you sure". The boys loved pounding in the nails and since the holes were pre drilled it was not nesessary to hold the nail to get it started, so no fingers were damaged.
