Looking to attach some face frames to base cabinets and bookcases for a fireplace surround. Not sure if I should use biscuits or splines to attach them. What about pocket screws? Other alternatives? Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Biscuits and splines are plenty enough. You would need to clamp while glue dries so if the cabinets are already installed that would steer me to pocket screws on assumption clamping might be difficult.
All things equal, I tend to favor biscuits. They are cheap, I have several hundred already and never really had an issue with them.

Thanks, I've been using biscuits a bunch for this project already. BTW, I ended up finding several other questions on the forum regarding this same topic - sorry for the redundancy. Still interested, though, if anyone has a new take on an old topic.
My face frames end up attached to the cabinet, so they don't need much joinery to hold them together. I've used pocket screws a lot. And dominoes.
Pocket screws with a little glue works well to attach face frames to cabinet boxes
I use biscuits just to make alignment easy. I have a number of spacers made to get the overhangs I want with a face frame. It makes the glue up easy and mostly stress free. Splines would do the same thing, but I'm set up for biscuits. I find alignment with pocket screws a bit more stressful since the angled screw can pull things if they are not clamped well.
Other alternatives?
Here's one, tongue and groove the face frame to the cabinet.
A little more work but super strong and clean looking.
