I’m making a custom Chess board for a client. The black chess pieces are VERY black

Thinking of dying the dark squares (maybe Maple)

I’ve seen other discussions soaking in Analine dye

How far in will the dye penetrate ? Will it withstand 1/16 final planing & then finish sanding?
