Anyone have any experience working with this wood? What are its charistics? Is it good for outdoor furniture? A friend is giving me a bunch of it and he wants me to make a couple adirondak chairs out of it. I believe I read someplace it is good for outdoor furniture but I just want to ask the experts.

Black oak is one of nearly 40 red oaks. Unless it has peculiar mineral streaking you'll be unable to discern it from the wood you know as red oak. Treat it as you would red oak, thus it's not the best oak for exterior use.
