I get delivered firewood from this guy that doesn’t want to pay the dump so he brings it to me no charge and sometimes brings me beer. I wasn’t home at time he unloaded. Long story short. Turns out its Black Walnut. I had never seen anything like this but knew it was a hardwood. Started to crack so i painted boths ends of the 7 or 8 logs. 16″ not including the bark and and range from about 36″ to16″ tall. Do not want to waste this beautiful wood. What do I do? Tried cutting it myself. Hahahahah!

Thank you
You could always hand carve bowls/spoons/spatulas out of it. To have someone else mill it would probably be expensive for what you get out of it. Best of luck!
Why not contact some local sawyers in your area? Yes, they'll charge you, and they might even tell you that what you've got is, after all, only firewood. But you'll at least make an important contact -- there are 2 guys in my area who give me a call whenever they've got something interesting.

I would strongly second Martain's comment. At least around where I live there has been an explosion in the number of portable mills run by independent folks who'd be happy to turn your logs into 5/4 or bigger planks. Of course, they'd charge you, but considering what you might have, the total board foot price could well be below market. Just be ready to stack, sticker and keep the stuff dry for a couple years. Sure beats burning it. Good luck!
