Hello all,
I am looking at a used Blackmax aircompressor 6 HP, 230v., 70 gal, for $230. I think that I have heard of this brand before but I don’t know if it is a quality unit. I saw that it is made by Coleman which is not a name I associate with quality.
Thank yall for the opinions/ advise,
Mike

I'd go to your local Sam's Club. Iirc, a new Black Max of similar capacity was in the $300-$400 range. Unless the unit you're looking at is almost new, maybe it's not such a great deal. A quality unit? ............ for continuous daily use I wouldn't even consider it but for a home shop it would probrably be fine.
Thank you,
I was thinking it was a good deal untill I saw "Coleman" on the name plate. For some reason I was thinking it was a higher end line. Like the Pumas.

Hi Mike,
The best advice I got off of Knots was to buy the Ingersoll rand 5 HP, 60 gallon compressor from Northern Tool..it runs around $500 with free shipping.
For that, you get a super quality, brand-new compressor with everything but hoses and the electrical plug.
I've owned for six months and couldn't be happier. It's quiet, efficient and supplies enough air for ANYTHING I do, including spraying finish.
Just make sure that, whatever you buy, you anchor it securely before transporting it. A critical step!!
Good luck!

At bLowes they have a Campbell Hausfielf (sp?) 7 horse, 60 gal, 135 psi, oil lubed cast iron head, 10 SCFM @ 90psi for $430. Is the IR that much better quality?
Mikeplease excuse my spelling.
I've owned both the IR and the CF and I think so. Just my opinion though.
The IR is more of a commercial machine. Most of what Lowes and HD sells as compressors is either very light industrial or homeowner-grade...

I also didn't note that the IR has more CFM and higher PSI...although PSI is not important compared to SCFM...if you spray or use it a lot.

thank you for the info.
