I need to purchase a blade guard for my Jointer. I purchased a used 16” Jointer a few months ago, but the owner never sent along the promised blade guard. I am looking for a source, as well as advice on what type to put on.

I repair machines and have put many a guard on a jointer. The standard is a porkchop type guard found on most all US jointers. Just go look at any jointer to get the basics. Easily made in an hour or two with some plywwod and a bolt and spring. You can bolt a block of wood to the side of the machine to mount the guard if there is no previous hole where a previous guard may have been mounted. There's other options but the cost is going to be a lot higher to retrofit another guard. Some of the European guards are much more sophisticated in that they allow the board being faced to go under the guard so if you slip the guard still protects you. Probably the best design going but for now I suggest the pork chop to get going.

Thanks rick, I'll get a pork chop in place until I can do something better. I understand what you mean about the cost getting up there; Martin sells a Swiss after market guard that runs $1,700. I had a SUVA style on a previous machine, and may eventually look for one of those.
