I have been looking at the Laguna 14 SE bandsaw. One thing I noticed is that it takes a 112 inch blade. If you own one of these saw, what blades are you using (for cutting curves, also resawing) and where are you getting them?
Thanks for any info on this.

Gary,
I don't have the LT-14 but I do have the LT-18. You can get the blades from Laguna or another supplier. I have ordered the Timberwolf bandsaw blades from PS Wood Machines (http://www.pswood.com) custom fabricated to the length I needed. Expect to wait a little longer for a special blade length. As I recall, PS Wood advised aboout a 2 week lead time on the blades but they actually delivered in about 10 days. For resaw, I use a 1" Lenox carbide tipped blade purchased from Laguna. Laguna now offers the Resaw King blade for which I hear many good reports as well.

Thanks for the lead Steve.

I live near a city of 80,000 people. In the phone book there are at least 3 different business's that make custom lenght bandsaw blades. I don't think it should be too hard to find a supplier. On the subject of the Resaw King blade, I have heard, but don't know for a fact, that a 14" saw is too small and the blades get stressed and break. Something to look into possibly. Peter
Hi Peter,
I live on a remote island of less than 10 thousand people. As such I am quite dependant on mail order and the web for purchases. I wanted to get a Timber Wolf blade. The place Steve recommended (and ultimately the manufacturer too ) will not ship to Canada, because there is an authorized Canadian distributor for the product and because of agreements...
The Canadian distributer will NOT make blades to length.
So, does anyone have another favorite brand of 1/4 inch blade for scroll work etc. Maybe with some luck this company will ship to Canada.
The people at laguna tell me they will sell me blades but only that they are "made of Swedish steel", no other details.
Does anyone have experience with Laguna's 'house brand' blades?
Gary
Gary,
That really stinks when you cannot get what you want or need. I live in a town of about 25K and can't find what I need locally so I also have to do the mail order thing. As an alternate source you may try Highland Hardware in Atlanta. Their website is http://www.tools-for-woodworking.com I have purchased from them before and they are a pleasure to deal with. I am not sure if they ship to Canada - all you can do is ask.
I have 5, oops 4 (I ruined one by doing something really stupid - my fault not the blaade) standard Laguna blades that I bought when I purchased the saw. Of the assortment I got, I only used the 1/2" blade and it performed satisfactorily up to the point I ruined it. I haven't used the other sizes. I usually have either a 1/2" standard blade set up for cutting out bowl blanks or a 1" carbide tipped Lenox for resawing. Hard to imagine I bought 4 blades that I haven't even had on the saw in over 5 years.
Good luck,
Steve
Once again I thank you Steve, (for your last lead and for your empathy)
Highland Hardware will ship to Canada.
Have you used any of their 'general purpose' blades?
Gary
Gary, to the best of my knowledge, I have not bought any BS blades from Highland so really can't attest to how well they perform. I recall reading a review of BS blades somewhere (maybe FWW) and the Woodslicer they carry got good reviews. I used to travel to Atlanta a lot and have made a number of visits to Highland in person. They are a first class operation. They are very knowledgable and helpful and will direct you to the person that has the most knowledge in the area of your question. You may have to ask for someone who knows the most about the BS blades when dealing over the phone and they will be able to make the best recommendation for your application. I am glad you have found a source that will ship to you. Let me know how it goes.
Steve
