I checked the Makita website. I did not find any information on blades for my Makita Jointer/Planer combination machine.
Where do those of you who own this machine buy blades for this machine?
The jointer is 6″ and the planer is about 12″.
Thanks!

The separate jointer and planer which I had been using were fine--or so I believed until I used the Makita 2030. Now I recognize what a difference a longer bed on the jointer makes. I see no snipe left by the planerThanks for the link. Do you own this machine? If so, what should I consider when time rolls around to change the planer blades and jointer blades?Again, thanks.
any competent sharpening shop will either have HSS blades in stock for this machine, or can obtain them easily. The same folks what sharpen yer handsaws and circular saws are the place to go.
And if you ain't been to that place, better start to develop the relationship now. Them saw blades you figured was sharp for the last 10 years,...well they likely ain't
The kicker is if you want carbide blades, well that is not only gonna be a whole lot more money, but yer likely gonna have to wait for em. I run carbide blades on my jointer, cause I sometimes have to trim MCP, and HSS just gets dull real quick with chipboard. Planer is HSS (it does cut cleaner when sharp)
Anyone with planer/jointer blades is to my pea-brain well advised to have a spare set.
just my thoughts
Eric
I would say if you are in business two spares would be a minimum.
I've owned a 2030 since the early 80's and am still on the original set of blades - with plenty of steel left to go. And I've used the machine a lot.
I sharpen them myself, and because I grind frugally, that probably explains why they have lasted so long. I wouldn't know where to get replacements though. This is an old machine now and I'd be surprised if they're still making parts for it..
Good luck, Zolton* Some people say I have a problem because I drink hydraulic brake fluid. But I can stop any time I want.
I know this is an old thread, but I'm trying to see if any of you are still active here and can help me. I've got a 2030, and I'm looking for someone who can tell me the angle to grind the 12" planer blades. I can sharpen the 6" jointer blades myself by using the honing guide that came with the machine. As far far as I can tell by measuring the angle on that guide, the edge of the jointer blades is 40 degrees. (Please tell me if I'm wrong.) But I can't find the spec for the angle to put on the planer knives in the owner's manual or anywhere else. Is it the same as the jointer knives? Even if it is, it would seem that the honing guide is too short to use with the longer knives, because I can't maintain even pressure along their length to ensure that the edges stay straight and true as I sharpen them. So I've decided to send the longer knives to a shop that does this sort of thing for machinists. ($0.75 per inch--not bad!) But I don't know what angle to tell them to put on the edge. Even the local Makita Service Center in Denver can't find the info.
Do you know the original edge that Makita put on the planer knives for this machine? I'd be grateful to have that info.
But going further, I know that some of you might have some recommendations about using a different angle for hardwoods. I more often work with ash, maple, white oak, red oak, and sometimes walnut. (Pine and poplar are also in my shop, but I can use the table saw to get close, and then hand plane those softer woods.) If you've changed the edge a bit for hardwoods, what works best for you?
And FINALLY, do you know a place where I can get replacement knives?
It's been quite a while since this thread was started, and I've already learned that all the places that used to carry knives for this machine are long out of stock. And I'm suspicious about whether the 2030N knives will truly fit the 2030. I read a post somewhere that says they won't fit.
Thanks for any info or leads that you can give me.
Rich
