What is a good way to attach metal (aluminum, I assume) blast gates to PVC pipe? (It seems a shame to put in metal screws when you’re trying to keep the air flow smooth.)
Thanks,
Jim Bell

Just me, but I would just make sure the screws are just long enough to hold the fitting and not extend into the PVC pipe and restrict air flow or catch things in the pipe. Use many short screws is my thought. But then again.. What do I know?
A silicone adhesive (e.g., "Household Goop") should work fine, if you put a good bead all the way around the circumference.

Run a short length of flex hose, this will also absorb vibration from the machines and collector, unclamp anytime you want.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks for the replies. I also contacted Lee Valley from whom I bought the self-cleaning blast gates. They said they didn't know but would ask around, and they phoned back recommending clear silicone caulking.

Use POP Rivets the correct length. Also don't worry to much about air resistance. I intentionally placed a "+" of wire in my 4 inch duct just before the impeller to catch a rag that might accidentially get sucked up. The wire "+" does not affect performance.
