I’m building a fireplace/TV cabinet. I want to use 3/4″ cherry veneer plywood, over gypsum board, attached to kiln dried lumber used to make the frame. I’m looking to create about a 1/8″ gap between the sheet, but do not want to see any fasteners or plugs. Something similar to the attached pictures. Any Ideas on fastening the plywood to the frame?

How about recessing magnets flush to the plywood and glueing some 1/8 metal sheets to the drywall? This could solve some allignment problems or precise measurements for French cleats.
Good luck, George

"The Real World" to Mike, Come in Mike, Can you hear me Mike. sometimes when we are being creators, it is hard to know when to say when. It is one thing to expect to make a piece of furniture that is a total gule-up, but sometimes it is impractical to think of achieving the same level on every project for here-ever -after. I know this, because I have been there and try to deal with it every day.
The rest of the world does not have expectations as high as we have for ourselves.
Even other good woodworkers don't come in and view our work as critically as we do while we are making things. Sometimes it is just much more practical to use nails and fill the holes.
However, if you can build thing so that one part overlaps another you can hide fasteners behind the overlap, and if you choose to veneer after the substrate is constructed is another. Also a hanger rail that fits into a mortise or dado along with liquid nails can cut down on the need for a lot of fasteners.
