I have stayed selectively with (picking out the better tool from the choices I could afford from) Grizzly, Sears, Shop Fox, Porter Cable & Makita so far.
Now I have my first White Jet tool, a Dovetail jig similar to the Shop Fox but a lot heavier cost $10 less at Western Tool. Works Great. I wonder if this is prelude of what’s to come?
I also got a 12″ Tenyru blade for my CMS thanks to a recommendation from a friend, it works great too.
So with that & my Porter Cable 690 3 base 1 3/4 hp router with a real nice edge guide system & a Dust Bee Gone mask & a Delta Router table given to my by a friend & lots of enjoyment with my Dad & family I think Christmas was a real success this year.
Dad & I built a 32″ x 90″ x 14″ cabinet for canned goods for my stepmother Lou. It was a lot of fun working in the shop with my Dad. Lou was really pleased. I even stayed 9 hours longer than I had intended because I wanted to help Dad do the heavy work of cutting down the 3/4″ sheet goods & assembly & get the cabinet set where it was going to be. At almost 81 he is amazing but he’s not able to handle the heavy material anymore. I really value the time I got to spend with him this year. It was the high point of Christmas for me.

Bart,
You get one "Atta-boy" for helping your Dad. If you'd like another..take that dovetail jig and build a 7" high step stool with a 36" high handle for the can goods cabinet. It's gonna be a little tough on 'Lou' to reach up there ...
They already have a folding four step stool with the wide deep steps & a folding 6 step ladder of the same design one of which will be setting beside the cabinet. I think Dad will probably be the one that puts the jars on the high shelf.
