I bought some new Blum hinges from Woodcraft. They are 35mm hinges that are face frame mounted. This allows european style doors when converting a kitchen. I would have thought the instructions would be correct. Silly me, no they were wrong. The linked photo shows the mounting plate reversed to what it should be.

I took me a long time to figure this out. I’m kinda frustrated.

Don,
I normally use the edge mount 1/2" or 3/4" face frame overlay mounting plates, not the face mount like what is shown in the photo - however, it looks correct to me. What exactly is the problem?

Thanks Lee,
I also usually use the hinges you discussed but in this job, I want to convert the face frame type doors to the "close together" European doors. Like the look you get with cabinets that don't have face frames and use clip-on hinges. My customer wants European cabinet doors that are seperated by about 1/8". This new Blum hinge can accomodate this look. It's jsut surprising that their instruction sheet shows a photo and drawing that don't concur. Their drawing is correct but photo is wrong.
Today received my Rockler catalog and they have the correct position photo of this hinge.
I assume Woodcraft is going to have to tell all their customers of the problem wiht the instruction sheet and photo on their web site. I wonder if that will actually happen.
No they are right in the illustration you are looking at the inside of the door a view only possible if you were sitting in the cupboard.

You can make it fool proof but not idiot proof
No the photo is incorrect. The mounted clip is upside down. The instruction sheet also showed a drawing of front, top, and side view, the drawing was correct. This is why I was so confused. Only after mounting this hinge on test pieces did I determine the correct method of mounting.
Also, it can not be like the photo because the mounting clip fits into cast recesses when closed and results in the cabinet door being 1/8" proud of the face frame. If installed like the photo, it stands proud nearly 1/4" because the clip will not fit the recesses cast into the cup.
Also, if the mounting clip is installed correctly, the mounting holes will not be so close to the edge of the face frame.
I have contacted Blum about this.
