Friends:
I could use some help. I’m in the final stages of building a bookcase system and things have gone well. The bookcases sit on two cabinets ( without face frames) and each cabinet will get two doors. ( four total). I made four doors out of 3/4 solid cherry with 1/4 cherry ply inserts…the doors are square. I’m stumbling with the Blum hinges. Does anyone know of a very clear explanation for their installation? …position of the 35 mm bore…..the distance of placement for the plates. I want the 3/4 door flush against the 3/4 case…no offset. I know they are “easy”, but I’m a bit frustrated.
Thanks
Rick

Blum specs
Rick,
If you give me the Blum catalog number of both your hinges and mounting plates I could give you specific answers. The 35mm hole is typically 5mm from the edge of the door. Slight variations (from 3-6mm) will give you a broader range of side-to-side adjustment. Blum makes literally dozens of mounting plates, and a common measurement for the holes is 38mm in from the front edge of the case. But the only way to be sure is to make a mock up - it takes 2 minutes and then you can be sure.
Euro hinges
Personally, I avoid using the euro things unless a client absolutely insists. I have done numerous service calls because of those hinges. They are a boon to the installers/mfrs as they eliminate the need of precisely fitted doors and the skills required but those same adjustability features appear to lead to their coming out of adjustment and eventual failure.....just my opinion....
Hinges
the hinge cup hole should be close to 3/16" from the edge. Drill a sample hole in scrap, to make sure that nothing binds when it is fully open.
The mounting plates need to be 37 mm or 1 1/2" to the center of the screw from the front edge of the cabinet front.
You should have a straight are on the hinge, that is to say, no goose-neck, with the lowest mounting plate, to get full overlay on 3/4.
Hi Rick,
I'm not exactly sure what you mean by no offset but the the Blum hinge won't be completely flat against the case in a frameless application because of the thickness of the hinge cup assembly. If you are talking about overlay then you need a speciific hinge/mounting plate combination for 19mm overlay.
