I have a client that would like me to build her two tables with a ‘bombe’ shaped pedestal. See the attached photo. Can anyone give me some advice on how to construct the pedestal, or point me to a plan somewhere? I’m OK with the rest of the table, just need to focus on the pedestal.
Thanks!

To get that look, you need some deep S curves on the pedestal. At first it looks like you could saw it from solid stock and maybe use the waste for the feet or top brackets. It could be difficult to find thick enough stock and you could have movement problems, too. I think I would consider veneering that center portion. That way, you could build up ground work that will be stable. I think I would build a box and then saw out the S curves on a bandsaw. You would replace the waste or make a suitable filler so you would have a flat surface on the saw table when you turn the box. Similar to sawing out a cabriole leg. The structural parts can go inside the pedestal, leaving the outside as decoration.
Beat it to fit / Paint it to match
Thanks. This is a good advice. I thought about veneering and using my vacuum bag, but I'm a bit worried about the force crushing the box. Perhaps gluing down the veneer onto separate sides after a dry assembly of the frame might be an option, but then I worry about the sharp mitered corners ripping the bag. Mandy
