Hello Gary,
Of all the editors of FWW, you are the most enjoyable to watch. Practicle and to the point are your strong suits. I was wondering what you think of the Bosch 3.25 Peak HP router. I want to get a 3.25 HP router and i hear this one is the best. What router do you use and what would you recommend!
Thanks again

Hi there,
Well I grew up in the Midwest so practical and to the point sort of suit me. Thanks for the kind words. As for routers, I don't usually need 3 hp so I use the Bosch 1617EVS. It's mostly a great all around router. With the plunge base I can plunge with it or use it in my router table.
As with any router, check the key working components: easy to get bits in and out [this should have a self-loosening collet which is nice], easy to find the switch [the 1617, not so much], and accurate depth adjustments. Good luck. Gary
Thanks for the quick response. I will looking into what you said. But if you don't have a 3.25 HP router / shaper of any kind, how do you make raised panels. You don't spin big bits???... Also, how much did it cost you to purchase that HUGE wood shop of yours. Is Real Estate cheap over there, WOW!!!...
Hey,
I don't do much raised panel stuff with big bits. I prefer simple rabbeted panels so I'm not pulling a lot of wood off with my cuts. As for real estate, it's expensive and getting worse or better depending upon whether you're buying or selling. My school and its growth, The Northwest Woodworking Studio, pushed me to find a good space close into downtown Portland. I got lucky too with my timing. But it's basically just a big ol barn that we're already outgrowing. Good luck with your woodwork. Gary
